How to create applications.
Ganz ganz lieben Dank an Annette für die englische Übersetzung. 🙂
It’s easy when using the right technique! Let´s try it together!

Materials: Example pattern or drawing, scissors, pins, pencil, threads in matching colours, iron rests of fabrics, 2 bands VLIESOFIX – a translucent paper with one rubberized side web/interfacing (?) – to stabilize the fabric |
Step 1
Split the drawing into separate parts and draw each separate part on the Vliesofix. The paper is translucent. All parts must be drawn mirrored. This is important when doing letters! |
|
The lower parts must be drawn a few milimeters larger where they meet the upper parts, so that later nothing separarates and no gaps will appear. See the arrow. |
|
Step 2
Cut the parts out roughly, outside of the drawn line. |
|
Step 3
Iron the paper with the rubberized side downwards on the back of the fabric rest. |
|
Step 4
Now cut out the parts on the lines. |
|
Step 5
Take the paper off carefully, the rubberized layer remains on the fabric. |
|
Step 6
Build up the picture on your fabric with the separate application parts. Make sure you let the parts overlap each other at the right places. Also put the band approx. 1 cm below the balloon parts. |
|
Step 7
Please check if the rubberized side lies between the fabrics. Otherwise your application will stick to your iron :o(

Step 8
Put the web/interfacing (?) for stabilization under the fabric. |
|
Step 9
The sewing machine should be set to middle width zigzag stitch and a small length. On my machine the length is 0.5 and the width is 3. |
|
Step 10
Lower the tension of the upper thread. Make a few test stitches. The lower thread should not be visible at the top side, but ofcourse it also should not form any loops at the bottom side of the material. |
|
Step 11
Start stitching the lower balloon, but begin approx. 1 mm on the upper. This way the ends of the thread will later be sewn along automatically when you sew the upper balloon. Sew slowly. At the corners you keep the needle inside the fabric, when the last stitch of the zigzag is on the outer side. This way you can turn the fabric carefully without losing the exact spot to go on sewing. |
|
Step 12
Now sew the upper balloon. |
|
Step 13
The web/interfacing (?) now can be teared of from the back. |
|
And this is how the back looks in the end. |
|
FINISHED!
